Law varsity's first VC takes charge
Hubli, DHNS:

Former dean of Gulbarga University Law Faculty J S Patil assumed charge as the first vice-chancellor of the Karnataka Law University, located at Rayapur between Hubli and Dharwad, on Monday. The varsity will start functioning from the coming academic year in June.

Speaking after assuming charge, Prof Patil (54) said, the vision of the University was to transform Karnataka into a legally conscious society by providing quality legal education and secure justice and human rights to everyone in the State. "The mission of the university is to produce law graduates who will put service before the self," he added. With the establishment of the Karnataka Law University, more than 85 law colleges functioning in the State would come under its  jurisdiction. A uniform curriculum for LLB, LLM, M Phil, Diploma and other courses across the State, including examination and evaluation process will be introduced, he said.

Prof Patil was appointed as the special officer for setting up the Karnataka Law University 3 years ago.  He was also instrumental in drafting the Karnataka Law University Act.
