Working women should be provided with more creches to take care of their wards through the Karnataka Social Welfare Board, Principal Secretary, Women and Child Welfare, Shalini Rajneesh said here on Tuesday. She felt that this would help working women dedicate their efforts towards work.
She was speaking at the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by Akhila Karnataka State Government Employees Association here.
Ms Rajneesh said that under this scheme, grants are given by the KSWB to an NGO to run creches for wards of working women aged between three months and three years. If there is a requirement of more such creches, it can be facilitated through the same scheme, she explained.
At the event, the Director-General of Police (Fire and Emergency Service, Home Guards and Civil Defence) Jija Harisingh called for effective implementation of existing laws to prevent incidence of attacks and sexual harassment on women.
The police department has initiated measures to ensure conducive environment to working women, she said.
The DGP called for awareness on this issue, since many women did not know that there are sufficient laws to deal with harassment.
