Change is constant and fashion is no exception. One look around city shopping malls and you’ll know it’s time for a wardrobe revamp, for the autumn-winter collection has arrived. The latest to showcase their creations is David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore.
Chocolate and black dominate Abraham and Thakore’s (A&T’s) autumn winter collection. Silk, georgette and wool have been used for this collection, which reflects key styles.
"We have used two kinds of wool. While one is light and lined with silk, we have also used heavy wool. This we have done keeping in mind our customer base spread across the globe. Fabric of luxury, pashmina silk has also been used for scarfs. We also have a range of shirts for men and only for our Indian customers we have sarees,” says Rakesh. The sarees carry jhamdani, ikat and bandhini works on silk, he adds.
After showcasing this collection, Abraham and Thakore are preparing for a show in Paris. “Titled ‘Indigo Blue’, the collection will carry a lot of hand embroidery. Tie and die, ikat and jhamdani works have been used,” he says. ‘’The home fashion line of Abraham & Thakore will also be expanded,’’ he adds.
A lot of designers are showcasing abroad, and of late, we are also seeing the entry of several international brands into the country. Is this trend a threat to local designers? “I think the coming of foreign brands is a positive experiment. People at least don’t have to travel abroad to buy those brands.
Delhi and Bangalore are becoming destinations for international brands and this only means more choice for the consumer. And this way the latest fashion is being made available to the Indian consumer,” says Rakesh. Before he leaves for a photo shoot, we ask him to list his colours for the season, and he suggests chocolate, rose, jade, ivory, violet and burgundy.

“It’s just not clothes that determines one’s personality. Beautiful clothes will make anyone look good. What is important is to be recognised as a good
human being.”
