Bhajans, ‘kolata’ to mark Basava Jayanthi in Bidar

The revolutionary leader of the 12th century and pioneer of the Bhakti movement, Basavanna’s 871st Jayanthi celebrations will be observed with traditional pomp and gaiety, in the district as well as in the City, on Thursday.

This time, the event will be observed on behalf of the government. All the government offices, departments, schools and colleges will be performing pooja to the portrait of Basavanna. Various programmes would be organised on behalf of the District Administration and Basava Jayanthi Utsav Samithi, in the City.

At 9 am, pooja will be performed to the portrait of Basavanna at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. A grand procession of the portrait will be taken out which will pass through the main thoroughfares of the City, including Bhagat Singh Chowk, Choubara, Vinayak Chowk, Pandurang Paduka, Kranthi Ganesh, Ambedkar Circle, Madiwal Circle and will finally culminate at the Nehru stadium.

Cultural programmes by school children, including lejeem, bhajans, vachana sangeetha, kolata by the various teams, will be held throughout the procession. At 5 pm, various workshops and cultural activities will be held at Zilla Ranga Mandira. Basava devotees and the public are requested to take part in large numbers, according to a press note issued by the President of Basava Jayanthi Utsav Samithi Shivasharanappa Wali and other office bearers.

In Sharana Udyana
As a part of the Basava Jayanthi celebrations, Basava Seva Prathishtana will be organising various programmes at Sharana Udyana.

At 8 am, Ganaprarthane, at 8.30 am, cradle ceremony of Basavanna and later on, a grand procession will be organised.

As part of the celebrations, on May 4, various children’s programmes will be organised at 5.30 pm. It will include, children’s workshop, special lectures, feature dramas and cultural activities. Sharans and Basava devotees are requested to take part in the event in large numbers, according to a press note issued by the Basava Seva Prathistana.

In Basava Mantapa
Under the auspices of Rashtriya Basava Dal, various programmes will be held to mark Basava Jayanthi celebrations, at Basava Mantapa, on Thursday.
A decision to this effect was taken at the meeting organised by Rashtriya Basava Dal, which was presided by its President Chandramma Patil.

At 10 am, flag hoisting ceremony will be taking place, at 10.15 am pooja will be performed to Basavanna, at 11 am, cradle ceremony will be organised by the Sharanas of Gangothree Akkanagalambike and at 4 pm, a grand procession of the portrait of Basavanna will be taken out from the Basava Mantapa. Basava devotees are requested to take part in large numbers, according to a press note issued by President of the City Unit of Rashtriya Basava Dal Vivek Patne.
