EC, Home Secy discuss poll preparations
The Election Commission on Thursday held talks with Union Home Secretary Anil Baijal in connection with preparations for holding the coming general election.
Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishna Murthy and the election commissioners B B Tandon and N Gopalswami discussed the law and order situation and security requirements, according to sources in the Election Commission.
The meeting, which lasted for 30 minutes, also discussed on the availability of Central paramilitary forces for the polls.
However, the Election Commission did not indicate the exact requirements of security forces to conduct free and fair polls, sources said.
The Election Commission had already held three rounds of talks with chief secretaries and top police officials from all states and Union Territories.
The EC will meet leaders of recognised political parties on Friday to seek their views on the ensuing elections.
