MEANDERING ‘CHI’ IS CONSIDERED AUSPICIOUS
‘Happy homes are definitely the result of positive energy’
This energy in Chinese is known as the Dragon’s Cosmic Breath and the flow of this energy as ‘Chi’ is the essence of good fengshui.

There is much work being done to validate the actual effects of harmful building conditions that exist in our environment in many developed countries.

Our general lifestyles are very different from what they were in the past and from what they are in less developed countries.

How do you feel when you walk into anyone’s home? Well if you are alert you can most often sense if it is a happy home or a sad home. What you are actually sensing is the invisible energy that flows through the environment through buildings and through the human body.

This energy in Chinese is known as the Dragon’s Cosmic Breath and the flow of this energy as ‘Chi’ is the essence of good fengshui.

All of us generate energy which may feel “positive” or “negative’. Homes with invigorating energy usually belong to strong, successful people. On the other hand, homes that exude a defeated or tired look usually belong to exhausted people. More often an office or a place of dwelling would mirror and reflect the motivations, taste and attitude of its residents. The energy of a home must never be allowed to stagnate.

Positive energy represented by “yang” or the colour white is needed to bring in good fortune to a home.

When ‘Chi’ stagnates it attracts dullness, stillness and negativity and the Chinese believe it reduces good fortune. The speed and direction of flow of ‘Chi’ is equally important and this calls for planning the layout of rooms and placement of doors and windows such that the ‘Chi’ meanders through it. If ‘Chi’ is allowed to flow straight, it gathers speed and takes on killing energy that harms the residents.

A slow and meandering ‘Chi’ is considered very auspicious and this can be achieved using plants, low furniture and room dividers such as counters and side boards that slow down the ‘Chi’. Placement of furniture contributes to the good flow of ‘Chi’.To ensure that you have a good flow of chi one could adopt the following:-

* Open at least two doors and windows to let in fresh air, daily.

* Periodically move large cupboards and clean the dirt that accumulates behind them.

* Give a thorough cleaning to the undersurface of your cot to clear the space you sleep on.

* Occasionally change the furniture or create a new arrangement but ensure it does not obstruct the flow of ‘Chi’.

* Maintain the home periodically through re-painting and ensure that the areas like the terrace, balcony and the canopies are cleaned.

Remember — revitalising interiors results in a magical change of energy and this can be experienced by the occupants if proper care is taken in implementing the changes.

The space always feels good after a well planned renovation and the energy of the house is always alive and never becomes stale or stagnant.
