Kanavi blames lack of political will
DHNS,Hubli:
Dr Channaveera Kanavi, a noted Kannada poet said on Friday that lack of will power among political leaders had caused delay in declaring Kannada as a classical language.

Speaking after inaugurating Karnataka Rajyotsava celebration programme organised by the Income Tax Entertainment Forum of Department of Income Tax at Navanagar near here, he said that if a language like Tamil could get status of a classical language, then what was the reason for the delay in giving the same status to Kannada too.

If Kannada language gets the classical status there would more flow of grants for promoting the language and for carrying out indepth study. The political leaders should pressurise the central government to declare Kannada as classical language at earliest.

Apart from that Kannada should also become an administrative l0anguage in government as well as private sectors in the State. He said outside forces need not meddle with the regional languages of any state.

Dr Kanavi said there could be an overall development of the state if there was cent per cent literacy. Total literacy would make people become self-reliant and economically stable. Literacy would also pave way to introduce decentralised system, which was the need of the hour.

Industrialist Vijay Sankeshwar and Mr Nataraj spoke on the occasion. Mr C Rajendran, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Hubli presided.
