APPOINTMENT
Prof Khincha is new VTU VC
Bangalore, DHNS:

Prof H P Khincha, chairman of the electrical sciences wing of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
Governor T N Chaturvedi, appointed Dr Khincha as the VC, from a panel of three names submitted by the search committee. Dr Khincha will hold office for a term of three years and will take over from Dr K Balaveera Reddy.
Prof Khincha is holding the position of Chairman, Division of Electrical Sciences, IISc since October 2001, which includes the departments of electrical engineering, computer sciences, electronics and communication among others. He received his BE (Electrical) from Bangalore University in 1966, ME (Power Systems) and PhD from IISc in 1968 and 1973 respectively. He then joined the Department of Electrical Engineering as a lecturer in July 1973. Prof Khincha was in Nagpur, when the announcement of his appointment as V-C to VTU was made on Friday.
He told Deccan Herald that he would be returning to Bangalore on Saturday.
He has to his credit over 200 publications in international and national journals. He is a senior member of IEEE and a number of professional bodies. Besides, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, founder member of Indian Academy for Mathematical Simulation in Engineering and Science, Senior Associate, National Institute of Advance sciences, IISc Campus.
His areas of research include power systems and the main areas of activities are power system control, protection, planning and operation studies and computer applications. He has been actively involved with the industries utilities and electricity organisations as advisor, consultant and member of committees for technical and techno economical problem solving and decisions.
