Karunanidhi promised to reconsider the decision after Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan called on him at his residence to bring about a rapprochement between the two parties. Later,
Thirumavalavan called on PMK founder S Ramadoss. It came shortly after the meeting of PMK general council, which passed a resolution that the DMK’s charge was baseless.
Support to UPA
In a significant development, the party also decided to extend support to the UPA government regarding the Indo-US nuclear deal.
After the split, Ambumani and DMK’s Union Shipping Minister T R Baalu met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi who is also reported to have talked to Karunanidhi about the face-off with the Left, over the nuclear deal.
