Shimoga chasing semifinal berth

Shimoga District FA blanked Mandya DFA to strengthen their claims for a semifinal berth in the Prasanna Kumar Memorial Cup football tournament at the Bangalore Football Stadium here today.

With this win, Shimoga topped Group D with two wins from as many matches but their qualification for the semifinal to join United Bangalore, SAI and BEML (EM) depends on their next encounter against BWSSB, who have one win from one match and pose a threat to Shimoga’s threat.

A win on the morrow for Shimoga will seal their place in the round of last four.
Sunil D’Souza scored a brace in Shimoga’s victory today, striking in the 46th and 70th minutes. However, it was Santosh Kumar, who opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Vinod added to the tally with a 55th minute strike.

In an inconsequential encounter, Dakshina Kannada and Government Press were involved in a 3-3 draw. Ilyas was on target in the 27th minute but 11 minutes later, it was neutralised with an Anthony strike. 

The Pressmen went ahead two minutes later when Giri found the net.
Jamsheed brought Dakshina Kannada back in the game with an equaliser in the 48th minute, soon after the lemon break. 

Government Press regained the lead in the 58th when Venkatesh broke through the rival defence and found the net.

In the dying minutes of the game, Ansar found the equaliser and Dakshina Kannada salvaged a draw.v
